Pro Art Gallery To Place The Spot Light On Street Art At Exhibition
The exhibition will feature art works by prominent and renowned street art legends.
- (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2013 - Dubai: ProArt Gallery, the gallery that celebrates innovative art and collectibles, today announced that it will hold an exhibition titled 'Street Art In The City' showcasing artworks of over eight international street artists from January 23rd to Febuary 13th, 2013 at the Pro Art Gallery located at Palm Strip Shopping Mall on Jumeirah Beach Road.
'Street Art in the City' will open with a gala reception on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 at 7 pm, where unique art works by prominent street artists such as Banksy, Saif B.Chilmiran, Salamech, Mau Mau, Shepard Fairey, D'Face, Richard Mirando aka Seen, British Design Collective, Evil Dr Revolt, and Mr Brainwash to name a few will be on display. Art lovers, connoisseurs and collectors are expected to attend the opening.
Speaking on the exhibition, Ms. Tatiana Faure, Director, ProArt Gallery, says "Street art began as underground, in-your- face appropriation of public visual surfaces and used as a tool for communicating their views. Captivated by the world of art, it is becoming a major part of visual space in many cities and a recognized art movement that is crossing over into museums and galleries."

Biographies of featured artists:
Banksy
Born in UK, he is perhaps the most famous current graffiti artist. While his real name is still the subject of much debate, Banksy is known throughout the world as a graffiti artist who specializes in satirical political and societal commentary. His art is a combination of stenciling, spray paint and fine brush painting. Known for infiltrating art museums and creating huge displays in prominent places in major cities, Banksy recently came out of anonymity long enough to collaborate with and put on a show in the Bristol Museum of Art.
Blek Le Rat
One of the first graffiti artists in Paris, and has been described as the "Father of Stencil Graffiti''. He began his artworks in 1981, panting stencils of rats on the street walls of Paris, describing the rat as the only free animal in the city, and one which spreads the plague everywhere, just like street art. His name originates from a childhood carton "Blek le Roc''. Banksy has acknowledged Blek's influence stating "every time I think I have painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier".
Salamech
Born in Montpellier (France),he started graffiti in 2001 and claims to be first as an actor authentic graffiti movement. The artist is permeated by urban culture since the late 90s along with hip-hop music, urban sports and the graffiti colouring the walls of his city. Salamech started graffiti from 2001 and his name is quickly noticed because it is composed of eight letters, which is unusual in this environment. It is distinguished by a naïve style and spontaneous. From 2002 he began to paint trains under the influence of Smole (iconic graffiti artist). Salamech uses every possible technique: pens, markers, spray painting and ink.
Mau Mau
He is a renowned graffiti artist who has gained a cult following for his humorous street art often based on topical themes. He has produced work for Greenpeace and the Glastonbury Festival, has created animated music videos for artists such as Dizzee Rascal.
Saif B. Chilmiran
Born in 1990 in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, he adds Emirati flavor to the international mix with selected works,. In 2006 Saif was offered his first mural commissioned job at a popular gaming lounge within the city. This exposition of his work and talents eventually lead to his graffiti, murals and street art being demanded at various promotional events, MTV Arabia, 2009 Mini Cooper launch, Redbull Air Race, Chevrolet Urban Challenge, Marc Ecko, a collaborative project with the international Spanish photographer Miguel Trillo, to name a few. In 2008 Saif started experimenting with canvas and other forms of art, while always keeping the street art factor in perspective.
