(1888PressRelease) January 13, 2009 - LONDON, United Kingdom – – Telnic Limited (www.telnic.org), the registry operator for the new .tel top level domain, today announced that all free trial VIP.tel test domains have now been updated to support privacy and ‘Friending’, a key aspect of the .tel functionality for individuals. Thousands of VIP.tel domain testers can now share private contact information securely.
Telnic has developed the ability to secure data in the Domain Name System (DNS) through the encryption of industry-standard NAPTR records using RSA level 1024-bit encryption. VIP.tel domain owners can use this functionality in conjunction with the Telnic ‘Friending’ System – a stand-alone system that allocates individuals with a unique username and password and associated public/private key – to enable friends and colleagues of a .tel domain owner to access individual pieces of private contact information.
“The level of encryption and granularity of control that enables .tel owners to share individual pieces of contact information with individual people puts .tel head and shoulders above any other contacts and networking sites,” explains Henri Asseily, CTO and Chief Strategist at Telnic. “The only way we could see to provide this level of security is through a unique domain, enabling the domain owner to truly control what they share with people and what remains secure.”
Additional functionality will continue to be added to the VIP.tel test domains, including integration with the applications for PCs and mobile devices which enable the integration of .tel information into other applications as well as minimizing the cost of accessing contact information across mobile devices by bypassing heavy web data charges. VIP.tel domains continue to be available for personal testing from www.telnic.org/vip until February 2nd 2009.
