- (1888PressRelease) January 27, 2016 - For Immediate Release:That Mennonite Joke makes a Manitoba Premiere with Faspa!
Winner of the Stories from Home Pitch Competition at Gimli Film Festival 2014, and winner of BravoFACTUAL support 2014, the docu-comedy That Mennonite Joke makes its Manitoba debut - where else but in the city of Steinbach! The film's premiere will be held at the Keystone Cinema on Saturday, February 6 at 4pm followed by a faspa reception and Q&A with the star Matt Falk and the Filmmakers; director Orlando Braun and producer Jorge Requena Ramos. The event is free to attend, as is the faspa [light, late-afternoon lunch, Mennonite style].
"Since Steinbach is so closely connected to several of the characters in the film, and likely the early adopters that'll [hopefully] embrace the film reside in southern Manitoba, we thought it would be the best fit to host a premiere there!" Declares Orlando Braun who adds, "the screening is free and there's free food, how could you go wrong?"
The newly built [2015] Keystone Cinema is located at 353 Elmdale Street, right next to the new Curling Rink. The theater seating includes lazyboys, recliners and loveseats.
That Mennonite Joke is a hilarious, surprising and insightful documentary-comedy hybrid film that explores humour in Mennonite culture through the perspective of comedian Matt Falk. As Matt prepares for his first live TV comedy special, he wonders if his Mennonite culture is funny enough to include more in his act. He takes a comedic walkabout through his heritage speaking with Mennonite humorists, authors, and entertainers such as Miriam Toews, Armin Wiebe, Corny Rempel, Leland Klassen and many more to gather material for his routine.
Matt Falk is a clean comedian who has performed on the biggest stages including the World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas [placing 2nd!], Just For Laughs in Montreal, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and more! He is based in Niverville, Manitoba.
"Premiering the movie in Steinbach is not only a brilliant idea, it's the only idea that really makes sense!" Says Matt, "I'm so excited about this movie, because as far as I know, it's all about me...and that's my favourite subject!"
That Mennonite Joke was produced by Prairie Boy Productions for MTS TV Stories From Home, produced with a grant awarded by BravoFACT [Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent] a division of Bell Media Inc., and with the participation of Manitoba Film and Video Production Tax Credit, and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit. Additional support by Winnipeg Film Group, and Manitoba Film and Music.
