  • (1888PressRelease) March 01, 2025 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 029.25, detailing the addition of two chemicals to Brazil’s positive list of substances for food contact plastics.

A consultation was held in 2024 by Anvisa, Brazil’s Health Regulatory Agency, on the proposed addition of two chemicals under Resolution of the Collegiate Board of Directors (RDC) No. 56/2021. Anvisa has subsequently issued RDC No. 961/2025, to amend the positive list of monomers, other starting substances and polymers authorized for the manufacture of plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food.

RDC No. 961/2025 includes two changes to the previous Resolution and became effective on its Official Journal publication date of February 10, 2025. These are:
    • Adds tetramethyl bisphenol F diglycidyl ether (TMBPF-DGE) with specifications to the list of monomers and other authorized substances under Part I to the Annex
    • Includes polyamide-imide 2 (PAI-2) with defined specifications to the list of authorized polymers under Part V of the Annex

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 029.25 includes the names and specifications of the two chemicals added to RDC No. 961/2025.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 029.25 for more details.
