  • Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) January 26, 2017 - On February 3, 2017 from 6:00- 8:00PM, the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will unveil its newest photography exhibit, "Portraits of Purpose: A Tribute to Leadership," from acclaimed photographer Don West.

    Don West's exhibit, Portraits of Purpose: A Tribute to Leadership captures the spirit of visionary leadership and tells the stories behind the story of more than 100 African American leaders and their allies in the post-civic rights era in Boston (1980-2013). Among the 107 portraits featured are local and international leaders including: Nelson Mandela, Henry Hampton, Mel King, Ruth Batson, Hubie Jones, Elma Lewis as well as unsung heroes such as Judy Richardson and Michael Kozu.

    The opening reception for the exhibit takes place February 3rd, 2017 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Attendees will enjoy wine and cheese and have the opportunity to meet photojournalist Don West and hear his personal take on the powerful portraits displayed.     The exhibit inspired a coffee table book with text by Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Ken Cooper, and on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 6:00PM - 8:00PM, the award-winning producer and writer will sit down with director Raquel Ortiz for a fascinating discussion surrounding Portraits of Purpose. Attendees will learn about the creation of their book and dedication to showcasing the pursuit of equality and social justice. The evening will end with an informal book signing and reception. Tuition is $15.00 and $13.00 for members.
