  • (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2017 - Portland, ME - Ann Tracy opens her Installation Art Exhibit entitled Visual Poetics of a War on Women with a reception on Monday, July 17th from 5 to 7 pm at Running with Scissors, 250 Anderson St., Portland, Maine. This interactive exhibit includes fabric, objects and video in response to the political situation of the past 12 months. The installation will end with a closing reception, Thursday July 27th from 5 to 7 pm. Although there are no regular hours, Tracy will show the work by appointment via email anntracy (at) gmail.com.

Tracy has been doing installation work off and on since 1994 when she and Sherry Ragan (deceased) won a grant from the Sacramento Metro Arts Commission to create Different Paths Up the Same Mountain, a multi-media installation about selected world religions. She has also created installations at Burning Man in Nevada.

"With my background in theatre, " Tracy said, "it's probably inevitable that installation would appeal to me . It's like I'm building little dream worlds for viewers, where they can bring their own stories to the work. I agree with artist Anish Kapoor that "... I have as little to say as possible and let the viewer find that space in themselves. Process has something to do with engagement."

Tracy's fine art has been exhibited from Japan to Maui to New York City to Spain and Budapest, Hungary. She was a 2014, 2015 and 2016 finalist in the Julia Margaret Cameron competition and was invited to exhibit at the 3rd Photographic Biennale in Malaga, Spain, as well as the 4th Photographic Biennale this fall in Berlin. In 2014, artscope (New England's Art magazine) chose one of her digital collages for the centerfold of their August/September issue. In 2003 her work, "Stop" was included in the catalog of the "Violence Against Women" exhibition, Group 78 Amnesty International, Tokyo, Japan. Her digital paintings "The Power of Romania Lies in its Artists" and "Message 3" were juried into the 2010 and 2008 editions of "American Art Collector". She presented a creativity workshop to feature writers at the Sacramento Bee, a daily newspaper in 2008. Tracy has also worked as an art expert for KVIE CH 6 (PBS Sacramento) for the 2010 Art Auction and was featured in Sacramento Magazine in November 2010 (http://www.sacmag.com/media/Sacramento-Magazine/November-2010/City-Sketch-Ann-Tracy/).
