  • Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) June 24, 2011 - A Port Huron McDonald's will celebrate 50 years in business beginning Mon., June 27 through Fri., July 1 with week-long menu board promotions, special prizes for customers and a donation to a local nonprofit organization in commemoration of its milestone anniversary.

    On Wed., June 29 at 9 a.m., McDonald's restaurant owner Markus Schulz alongside his family members and crew, will present a donation to the SONS Organization as part of the 50th anniversary celebration.

    Schulz's grandfather Karl Oeser first opened the restaurant's doors on June 29, 1961 following encouragement from a personal friend, McDonald's Corporation founder Ray Kroc. He later sold the restaurant to his son-in-law Gunter Schulz in 1976. In 1990, Gunter Schulz sold the business to his son Markus who remains the current owner. The restaurant was demolished and replaced by an entirely new building in 2007.

    The Schulz family has a long history with McDonald's. Schulz's daughter and son have both followed along in their family's footsteps with the fast food company. His daughter owns two McDonald's restaurants and his son is a store manager. According to Schulz, his daughter is the only fourth generation McDonald's restaurant owner in the Michigan system.
