  • (1888PressRelease) February 12, 2011 - Montclair, CA - Between 10a.m and 2 p.m. the public is invited to bring cars in need of cleaning to enjoy a waterless car wash experience. Volunteers from the Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity family partners committee, the University of La Verne Football team and additional University of La Verne athletes will be washing cars the waterless way. Donations will be accepted to support the mission of Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity.

    According to the EPA, the average person will waste 116 gallons of water while cleaning their car in their driveway. The average stand-alone "car wash" will use over 40 gallons of water per car. This is a lot of soapy grey/ contaminated water going down the storm drain and into the environment. In California water usage/ rules are very strict. In fact the idea to host a waterless car wash emerged from a failed idea for a car wash fundraiser.

    For the past three years the Family Partners Committee of Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity has hosted a car wash fundraiser. Last year, the car wash was cancelled due to water restrictions placed on the planned car wash location. Family Partners Committee member Felicia Ambrosia then stemmed the idea of hosting a waterless car wash. Felicia researched the process of the waterless car wash and contacted Freedom Waterless Car Wash Founder David Elliott regarding their products. Freedom Waterless Car Wash has partnered to provide the products and it was also decided to hold the waterless car wash at the affiliate's ReStore.

    ReStore resale outlets provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream while providing funding for Habitat's community improvement work.

    "The values and goals behind the vision of the ReStore make it an excellent location to host a waterless car wash" says Jody Gmeiner, President/CEO Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity. "It will also bring the community to the ReStore so they can see the variety of items we offer.";
