Pointwest, APC build partnership to help make Philippine IT graduates globally competitive
Pointwest and Asia Pacific College sign an MOA for an internship program designed to better prepare Philippine IT graduates for the future.
- (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2012 - Manila, Philippines - When Pointwest Technologies Corporation and Asia Pacific College (APC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last week, they formed a partnership that would strengthen APC's internship program. The MOA stipulates that Pointwest, as the "industry partner," will sponsor APC students, who shall carry out a portion or the entire duration of their internship in the company.
The partnership between the two parties, however, aims to achieve more than just filling up an intern's required hours. The fact that the highest official of each party -- Beng Coronel, Pointwest president and Dr Paulino Tan, APC president -- led the signing signals the importance of this venture.
And this venture does have loftier goals. Both Pointwest and APC are working to close the gap between what IT students in the Philippines are learning in college and what the industry is expecting from them when they join the workforce.
The scope of work per job function was crafted based on accurate industry assessments, detailing the challenges encountered by IT professionals. This is to ensure the country's graduates are prepared to take on their chosen career paths, and are more competitive and better equipped for the global stage.
Both parties believe this new partnership will create more venues for long-term growth in the Philippines's thriving IT industry.
Asia Pacific College began as a joint venture between IBM Philippines and SM Foundation, and has now evolved into a reputable academic institution that fosters professional competence through teaching and hands-on training.
Pointwest, APC's latest industry partner, is the largest 100% Filipino-owned global service company in the Philippines, with more than 700 IT professionals building and implementing best-in-class business solutions. The company recently expanded its delivery center at the UP-AyalaLand TechnoHub in Diliman, Quezon City, as it plans to provide Filipinos more career opportunities in their home country through offshore IT and business process augmentation.
