  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) October 28, 2013 - On Saturday, November 16th, Poetry Teachers NYC (PTNYC) will host "Across State Lines," an evening of boundary-blurring poetry and performance at the Pomegranate Gallery in Soho. The event will feature poets and artists-both visiting from across the country and currently residing in New York City-who have lived, worked and honed their crafts in diverse regions. Visiting poets include Sarah Suzor of Venice, CA, founder of Highway 101 Press and winner of the 2010 Hudson Prize for her collection The Principle Agent; as well as Travis Cebula, widely published poet, author, essayist and founder of Shadow Mountain Press, who currently lives and teaches in Maryland.

Performances will include readings from many poets across different categories as well as live painting, musical ensembles, and a DJ. "The night is all about borders being broken away," says PTNYC faculty member Daniel Dissinger, "we're going to have this whole collective of creativity." PTNYC conceives of this event as a celebration of artistic communities, drawn together by bond that transcends both geography and genre. The concept is in keeping with the mission of Poetry Teachers NYC, which strives to foster a sense of community amongst its faculty, students and the arts world at large, carving out a creative space for emerging and established artists to learn, grow and collaborate.

"Across State Lines" will take place from 7:00pm - 9:00 pm at the Pomegranate Gallery, located at 137 Greene St. between Houston St. and Prince St. For a full list of performers, see the attached flier or visit http://www.poetryteachersnyc.com/events/across-state-lines-reading-pomegranate-gallery-1116/. The event is free of charge and wine and refreshments will be served. The Pomegranate Gallery is supported in part by the Ohded Halahmy Foundation for the Arts, a non-profit organization that aims to foster world peace by promoting artists who proliferate a wider understanding of Middle Eastern culture.

    About Poetry Teachers NYC (PTNYC)
PTNYC is founded by Megan DiBello, graduate of the Naropa School of Disembodied poets in Boulder, CO. PTNYC defines "poet" as any maker/doer across multiple disciplines (art, writing, music, etc.) and is based on the belief that artists should be able to teach as a job and create as a career. PTNYC offers affordable classes and workshops, taught by a talented faculty of trained artists dedicated to advancing the employment of creative professionals. PTNYC's current course offerings include three weekly sessions, which culminate in a student performance at the Bowery Poetry Club.

Courses are designed for students from all backgrounds and levels of expertise and are limited in size to maximize collaboration amongst students and their instructors. Sessions are held on Sundays at the Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan. The next course begins on Sunday, Dec. 1.
