This project has been conceived by the Government of India with an objective to transform the Government departments and agencies from department-centric mode of working to a citizen-centric way of working.

Under the NeGPProgramme, Project Management skills have been identified as one of the 11 key areas on which training is to be imparted to the officials involved in NeGP.

However, since the concept of project management is relatively new in India, Project Management Institute (PMI) has been roped in for professional guidance and training. PMI, a not-for-profit institution, established with a primary goal to advance the practice, science & profession of project management throughout the world is well respected by the corporate world for its benchmarking standards and practices.

The vision of NeGP is to "Make all Government services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency & reliability of such services at affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man." The programme will also strengthen the government's hand to root out corruption in the bureaucracy right from grass root levels itself, and could be a game changer.
