  • (1888PressRelease) July 17, 2015 - In June and July, 2015, over 300 volunteers offered help to plant over 10,000 trees in the jungles of Thailand and Cambodia as part of a program funded by Flight of the Gibbon Zipline Eco-Tours to restore and preserve the jungles in S.E. Asia.

5,000 trees were planted in Mae Kampong, located about one hour from Chiang Mai, Thailand. The area where the planting occurred was once farm land which hosted coffee plantations and other crops. The Mae Kampong village community owns the land and without their generosity the tree planting would not be impossible. They encourage the tree planting to help preserve and protect the jungle. The forest land sits at approximately 1,400 meters above sea level and covers an area of ground equal to 30 rai.

This planting included 120 students, 10 tour agents, dozens of local villagers from Mae Kampong, forestry department officials, and FORRU staff. It is not the first planting funded by Flight of the Gibbon.

In Angkor Archeological Park, 5,000 trees were planted with the help of 100 students from the local Samdelheuv Public School, under the direction of The Department of Forestry's Cultural Landscape and Environment Management Division (which is overseen by His Excellency Chorr Thanuth) and Demis Galli, the Director of Education and Environmental Impact at Flight of the Gibbon™. Officials from APSARA Authority were also key participants in this planting.

Cambodia's natural forests have been subject to huge levels of deforestation and degradation over the past decades and Flight of the Gibbon™ is pleased to be assisting with restoring the natural balance of Cambodia's natural heritage. The APSARA authority was instrumental in supporting this tree planting program.

These plantings are conducted each year with funding by Flight of the Gibbon with the goal of planting tens of thousands of trees in the jungles where they operate.

Demis Galli, Flight of the Gibbon's project lead said; "It is important to give back to the communities in which we operate. Our tree planting programs will help restore the natural presence of the jungle trees and will provide a habitat for native species in which to dwell."

There were 22 different species planted during the plantings. A complete list is available at http://treetopasia.com/latest-news-briefs-from-flight-of-the-gibbon.
