Pippa Mann and Cyclops Gear to race the Firestone 550 in Texas

(1888PressRelease) June 26, 2013 - Mann will drive the No.18 Cyclops Gear branded machine, in what will be her first race appearance on the a 1.5 mile oval track, based just outside the city of Fort Worth in Texas. Mann does however have some experience of the speedway's 24 degree banking and wide racing surface, having tested an IndyCar there at the beginning of 2011.

The news of Mann's participation in Texas this weekend follows her strong performance at last month's Indianapolis 500, where she piloted the No.63 Cyclops Gear / Dale Coyne Racing entry. Mann qualified in 30th despite being out of an Indycar for 18 months and never previously having driven the DW12.

Speaking about the announcement, Mann said: "After the Indy 500, I knew that overall our month of May had gone well, and that there was a chance I might have the opportunity to get back in a car for the Texas race. However, I wasn't sure whether it was going to happen or not until everything got confirmed this past weekend while the team was in Detroit.

"Texas Motor Speedway actually has some pretty special memories for me, because it was the venue of my first ever Indycar outing. That test with Conquest Racing led to my first Indy 500 in 2011, so I'm really looking forward to going back there for the race this weekend. I know driving the DW12 will be pretty different from the last time I drove at that track, but the Cyclops Gear car was great at Indy and I'm definitely ready to be reunited with her in Texas!"

The Firestone 550 is scheduled to get underway at 8:40 pm (EDT) on Saturday, June 8 at Texas Motor Speedway. The 550km race - the first night race of the year - will be broadcast live on ABC, with pre-race coverage starting at 8:30 pm (EDT).
