Pioneer of Indian Contemporary Dance, Padma Shri Astad Deboo, all set to perform his first solo in over 10 years in Bengaluru
The 60-minute solo, 'Eternal Embrace', in collaboration with renowned Japanese musician Yukio Tsuji will take place on 16 December 2016 at 7 pm.
- (1888PressRelease) December 12, 2016 - Bangalore, India- Padma Shri Astad Deboo, a pioneer in Contemporary Indian Dance, will perform his 60-minute solo, 'Eternal Embrace', at The Collection, UB City. The dance, composed in collaboration with Japanese musician Yukio Tsuji, will take place on 16 December 2016 at 7 pm. This is Astad's first solo performance after a decade in Bengaluru.
With a career spanning almost 50 years, Astad has performed in 70 countries, collaborated with world-famous legends such as Pink Floyd, and worked with the Government of India to celebrate the coronation of the King of Bhutan. For the last two decades, he has worked extensively with disabled artists, and opened the 25th Deaf Olympics Cultural Festival with his 'Deaf Group'.
'Eternal Embrace', choreographed and performed by Astad and composed by Yukio Tsuji, explores the tension between the ephemeral and material worlds. The piece was recently performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, where it received a standing ovation, with Astad being touted as "a dancing monk". He is excited about his performance in the city and is gearing up to enthrall his audience with this Sufi-inspired solo, in his signature style of evoking intense emotion.
Sharing his thoughts on his upcoming performance in Bengaluru, Shri Astad Deboo said, "It's a pleasure to present my latest creation along with my collaborator, Yukio Tsuji. I'm very excited about my performance in UB City."

Astad Deboo has choreographed for some of India's most prominent film directors, including Mani Ratnam and Vishal Bharadwaj as well as for legendry painter M.F. Husain. Internationally, he has performed for the Royal families of Thailand, Japan, and Sweden.
He has performed at innumerable National Dance Festivals including the Khajuraho Dance Festival and the Elephanta Festival. He has also performed at International dance festivals including in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Hong Kong, Ecuador, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, The United Kingdom and The United States of America.
