Pinnacle ENT Associates Offers Patients Access to Ultra-Low Dose CT Scans

- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2011 - The practice utilizes the high-definition, ultra-low radiation dose MiniCATTM CT scanner, manufactured by Xoran Technologies, as a diagnostic imaging tool for sinus and ear conditions. The MiniCAT scanner dispenses significantly less radiation than other CT scanners, with patients receiving one-tenth the radiation of full-size CT scanners used in other radiology settings. As opposed to traditional, full-body scanners, the MiniCAT is an open scanner that allows patients to be seated in an upright position, eliminating claustrophobia and the need for children to be sedated.
This new CT scanner may accelerate diagnosis and treatment. A scan takes only 10, 20 or 40 seconds, depending on the protocol selected. A high resolution, digitally versatile CT image is then immediately available to PENTA physicians or other referring physicians for analysis. The images are also often shown to patients, increasing their comprehension of the diagnosis and compliance of treatment. Patients are comforted that this new technology has a substantially lower radiation dose than full-body CT scanners.
PENTA has offered this service since May 2008 to patients who require a CT scan of the sinuses, temporal bones or skull base.
