Piggly Wiggly Facebook Fan Drive Creates Buzz In Charleston
Piggly Wiggly Facebook Fan Drive is underway and already creating buzz around Charleston, S.C.
- Charleston-North Charleston, SC (1888PressRelease) November 03, 2010 - Michelle Scarafile and Pam Hartley, Co-Founders of the Charleston Basket Brigade, announced today that the Piggly Wiggly Facebook Fan Drive is underway and already creating buzz around Charleston, S.C. From November 1st to November 7th, Piggly Wiggly will donate $1 to the Charleston Basket Brigade for every new fan on their Facebook page up to $1,500. In the first day of the drive, Piggly Wiggly gained about 700 fans. The fan drive was also named the number one 'tweeted' or most talked about topic in Charleston according to Happn.in (http://happn.in/) for November 1st.
Hartley, whose company specializes in social media, marketing and public relations, enlisted the assistance of influential Facebook users and local organizations to pull off a huge fan drive for the week. She said, "We've reached out to a number of individuals and organizations to spread the word throughout the week. We've got a few exciting things planned this week to publicize this fan drive so that the number of fans keeps growing and growing." She added, "Piggly Wiggly is such a great corporate citizen. We're thrilled that Christopher Ibsen, the Director of Marketing at Piggly Wiggly, has given us the opportunity to create such a cutting edge social media event!"
The Charleston Basket Brigade is made possible through the efforts of Carolina One Real Estate, Piggly Wiggly, Communities In Schools, Momentum Marketing, many caring friends, families and community members. Carolina One staffers, agents and event volunteers raise money, assemble the meals at pre-set staging areas and deliver meals to the families. Communities In Schools, a non-profit drop out prevention organization with 20 counselors in 16 schools throughout Charleston and Berkeley County, locates the families that will receive meals based on need and maps out directions for delivery. Piggly Wiggly provides discounts on food, boxes, and coordinates delivery of the food to staging areas throughout Charleston. Momentum Marketing (Hartley's company) provides public relations and event coordination assistance. Four staging areas will be set up throughout the Charleston area on Tuesday, November 23rd, two days prior to Thanksgiving. Meals will be assembled and delivered that day. The meal includes a 10-12 lb. turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and butter.
In 2008, Hartley and Scarafile began The Charleston Basket Brigade with a commitment to bring the community together to provide Thanksgiving meals for Charleston families in need. The Basket Brigade is modeled after the Anthony Robbins International Basket Brigade, which is built on a simple notion: one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform the lives of hundreds. Each assembled meal costs $30.00. Individual and corporate donations can be made online at www.charlestonbasketbrigade.com. All major credit cards are accepted and 100% of the donations go towards buying food. For more information on the volunteer effort, visit www.charlestonbasketbrigade.com.
