Philippine Charities Supports Nutrition-Through-Vitamins Campaign
Philippine Charities will be working with Rotary Club-Bacoor, Philippines to raise funds and help fight malnutrition in the Philippines by making daily vitamins available to malnourished children.
- (1888PressRelease) May 18, 2012 - MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Philippine Charities, an online fundraising organization for the benefit of various charities in the Philippines, has expressed its support for the VitaminR Program of the Rotary Club of Bacoor, Philippines.
The VitaminR Program is a nutrition-through-vitamins campaign for the benefit of malnourished children in the Philippines that will be launched this month in Cavite, Metro Manila. After the initial launch, it aims to extend the VitaminR Program throughout the country.
"The Philippines is filled with smiling children," said Jim Baumbach of Rotary Club-Bacoor. "Unfortunately, the lack of proper nutrition for these children results in poor school performance, a general lack of childhood energy, increased risk of illness and more.
The goal of VitaminR is to reduce the effects of poor nutrition by introducing daily vitamins into the diets of Filipino children living in poverty. We hope to provide daily vitamins to 10,000 children in the slum areas in the Philippines for at least 4 months per child. Hopefully more than that, if enough funds can be raised."
Currently, Rotary Club-Bacoor, along with the 81 other Rotary Clubs under Rotary District 3810 in the Philippines, are raising funds to support the program. Estimated costs will run up to US$120,000.00 to reach 10,000 malnourished children in one year.
One of its fundraising channels is through Philippine Charities (dot) com. "We at Philippine Charities believe in the VitaminR Program initiated by the Rotary Club of Bacoor," said Jodie Lynn Soontit, project manager.
"Every 6 seconds, a child dies from malnutrition. By supplementing these malnourished children with daily vitamins for a certain period, their chances to survive will greatly increase. We welcome the potential long-term benefits of this nutrition-through-vitamins campaign on the physical, social, mental, and psychological development of the poor children in the Philippines.
To assist the Rotary District 3810, we will be featuring the VitaminR program on our website at PhilippineCharities.com. We will also be raising funds for it locally through our Coins For Charity Campaign."
There is already an ongoing pilot project with 38 Filipino children who receive vitamins at least 5 times each week. They have started to look healthier with visibly better skin tone and lesser skin sores. Energy levels have increased as well.
The cost to supply vitamins for one child is only US$3.00 per month. With such a minimal amount, both Rotary Club-Bacoor and Philippine Charities hope to raise enough support for the VitaminR program to reach its goal of 10,000 Filipino children for the first year.
