- (1888PressRelease) April 18, 2012 - CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES - Philippine Charities (dot) Com, an online fundraising website dedicated to raising funds for charities in the Philippines through the internet, recently launched the Coins For Charity Campaign.
While the organization's online fundraising efforts are primarily targeted at foreign nationals and Filipinos overseas, the Coins For Charity Campaign is a local fundraising effort to get Filipinos in the Philippines involved in helping their less fortunate.
The Coins For Charity Campaign is simple. Philippine Charities partners with local establishments and places a donation box at the cashier's area where customers make their payments.
The donation boxes feature a specific purpose to which the funds raised will be used. This serves to invite the customers to support the cause by dropping coins or small bills in the donation boxes, knowing how their donations will be spent.
"While most of the Filipinos belong to the lower middle class and beyond that, they still possess a generosity of spirit," said Jodie Lynn Soontit, founder of Philippine Charities.
"We often see or hear of Filipinos who do not hesitate to lend a helping hand or share their provisions with those who have even less than they do.
With the Coins For Charity Campaign, we aim to provide local Filipinos a low-cost way of helping out fellow Filipinos who have been made victims of natural disasters and other unfortunate circumstances."
The Coins For Charity Campaign started January 2012, and benefits various charities in the Philippines. As of this article, partner establishments include Coco Palms Resort, Colours Digital Foto, Ngohiong Express, Royal Concourse, Sony Centre (Ayala Center Cebu), and The Brown Cup.
At present, Philippine Charities has approximately 30 donation boxes with the above partners. They are currently inviting other local businesses to accommodate their donation boxes as well. They aim to deploy 100 boxes by the end of June 2012.
Aside from accepting donations through its website or directly through its bank, Philippine Charities also provides interested donors with other creative ways to help.
Among others, Philippine Charities has an online shopping portal. Online shoppers can access their favorite online stores through this portal on the Philippine Charities website. Every time they do and make a purchase from their destination online store, that store donates a portion of their sales to Philippine Charities.
Philippine Charities also work with corporations on their corporate social responsibility programs and work together on various projects for the benefit of charities in the Philippines. Employees can also get involved through the Payroll Pledge, where a portion of their salaries are donated to various charities every month.
Philippine Charities also offers help-for-free options. Some of these are sending e-cards, sharing the website, and even just clicking on certain sponsors on the site.
