  • Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) April 16, 2014 - Willig, Williams & Davidson, a Pennsylvania labor and employment law firm, recently was honored by Philadelphia VIP (Volunteers for the Indigent Program) with its William J. Brennan Award in recognition of the firm's outstanding commitment to the provision of pro bono legal services. The award was presented on March 31, 2014 at the Wilma Theater during Philadelphia VIP's annual awards ceremony and reception.

Philadelphia VIP bestows its highest honor, the William J. Brennan Award, upon firms, corporations and individuals that accept the most referrals and provide extraordinary service to VIP clients in a given year. This year, for the first time, the Brennan awards were divided into five categories: small firm, medium firm, large firm, corporation and solo practitioner. Willig, Williams & Davidson is the 2013 recipient of the Brennan award among the medium-sized law firms.

"Guided by stellar volunteers Kristine Phillips and Kathleen Tana, Willig Williams & Davidson attorneys handled cases across disciplines, including probate, custody, mortgage foreclosure, adoption, and real property," said Judge Anne E. Lazarus, a member of VIP's board of directors. "Their work has helped preserve our clients' basic needs by preventing homelessness and stabilizing families. We are fortunate to have the attorneys of Willig, Williams, & Davidson as passionate and dedicated volunteers."

This is the fourth year that Willig, Williams & Davidson has been recognized by Philadelphia VIP for its pro bono services. The firm was recognized with VIP's 2011 Silver Gavel award and the 2009 and 2012 Brennan award. Phillips also was honored as VIP's Volunteer of the Month for November 2013.

"Our attorneys are dedicated to protecting the rights of working people, and that philosophy is a natural fit with the mission of Philadelphia VIP," said Managing Partner Deborah R. Willig, Esq. "Together, we help those who are less fortunate in our community and promote equal justice for all by providing needed legal representation collaborating with other legal services organizations and promoting a culture of volunteerism."

Philadelphia VIP, the hub of pro bono in Philadelphia, was founded in 1981 by the Philadelphia Bar Association and Community Legal Services to meet the legal needs of low-income Philadelphians by recruiting and training attorneys to provide pro bono legal services. Today, VIP's diverse volunteers advise more than 3,000 clients each year on legal issues that affect basic human needs, such as housing, child custody and support and disability rights.
