Shepherd educated the hospital's Department of Anesthesia faculty and residents during its Grand Rounds.

According to Shepherd, "Anesthesiologists have been in the forefront of the patient safety movement. As a result, overall mortality secondary to anesthesia has fallen by 97% since the late 1940s, and the payout on claims against anesthesiologists in Pennsylvania has been in single digits for each of the past five years."
Shepherd was recently named a Litigation Counsel of America Fellow.
