- (1888PressRelease) January 18, 2011 - A wide range of high-performance components for water jet blasting and water jet cutting pumps is available from Philadelphia Carbide Company, suburban Philadelphia manufacturer of wear and machine parts.
Among the parts manufactured are plungers, pistons, backup and distance rings, sleeves, bushings, needles, valve seats, plugs and balls. Plungers are manufactured from zirconium, nickel binder carbide and tungsten carbide
Although the company custom manufactures plungers and other components to virtually any supplied specifications, many sizes are inventoried for existing customers, thereby reducing turnaround time from the 10-12 week industry norm to as little as one day to two weeks.
"Today's water jetting pumps often operate in the most demanding service conditions, sometimes in the presence of harsh chemicals, sometimes in a gaseous environment," noted Rocky DeCarlo, president of Philadelphia Carbide. In response to these increasingly challenging service conditions, "we have developed special grades of ceramics and carbides, specially tailored for different service conditions, to ensure optimum performance and long life for water jet pump parts and components." The components, he said, have been subjected to working pressures in a range of 10,000 psi (750bar) up to 70,000 psi (5000bar).
Philadelphia Carbide is capable of finishing plungers to a surface finish of less than 1 Ra-- a finish that is crucial for maximizing plunger and packing service life.
All parts manufactured by Philadelphia Carbide are subjected to extensive quality control measures to ensure compliance with all technical specifications---starting from certification to ensure the purity and physical properties of the raw materials, through rigid manufacturing controls, to advanced measurement capabilities of the final product.
