PESB Picks Krishna Kumar Gopalan as the Next CMD of BPCL
The public enterprises selection board or pesb has nominated mr. Gopalan for the post of chairman and managing director (cmd) at the india’s second largest oil refining and marketing company (omc) bharat petroleum corporation limited (bpcl).
- (1888PressRelease) December 29, 2022 - The government’s sources announced on Dec 14, 2022, that they have picked Krishna Kumar Gopalan as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of India’s second-largest oil marketing company (OMC) BPCL.

New BPCL CMD Mr Gopalan is an electrical and electronics engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli. He is also a postgraduate in finance management from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management studies.
Following are some of the top managerial and executive positions Mr Gopalan commanded.
- Krishna Kumar joined the BPCL as a management trainee in April 1987.
- Later after joining the company Krishna Kumar was a senior manager for their Loyalty Programs.
- Deputy General Manager (Learning and Development)
- Chief General Manager, Human Resource Department, HRD
- Executive Director, Human Resource Department, HRD
- Executive Director, Lubricants
MR. GOPALAN SELECTION PROCEDURE
Krishna Kumar was selected after appearing for various rounds of interviews held on December 12, 2022.
After a short listing of six candidates (all from BPCL), he was finally selected.
PESB Selection will have to be ratified by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

BPCL controls 15% of the total market share. Kochi refinery is BPCL’s biggest refinery with a capacity of 15.5 million tons per year.
* BPCL’s marketing infrastructure includes a network of installations, depots, energy stations, aviation service stations and LPG distributors.
* BPCL’s distribution network comprises over 20,000 Energy stations, over 6200 LPG distributorships, 733 Lubes distributorships and 123 POL storage locations, 54 LPG bottling plants, 60 Aviation Service Stations, 4 Lube Blending plants and 4 Cross country pipelines.
