Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) April 23, 2014 - Port Everglades has recently announced a $24 million terminal renovation to start in spring and complete in the late Fall of 2014. The Port has been extremely busy, undergoing renovations for six cruise terminals in the past five years. Moss Construction has contracted with Perfection Architectural Systems to construct walkway covers and canopies for the cruise pick-up and drop-off portion of the terminal. In addition to the covered pick-up/drop-off additions, the $24 million will also include adding 172 parking spaces, new restrooms, improved lighting and 50 new check-in counters for larger ships.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the Port officials also plan to apply for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the terminal based on the energy-efficient upgrades, like the walkway covers.

"Our team is excited to be a part of this project," says Rob Jones, Marketing Manager of Perfection Architectural Systems. "The walkway cover additions are going to be extremely positive for the cruise passengers, and hopefully will allow the Port to earn their LEED certification."

Port Everglades is one of the three busiest cruise ports in the world with nearly 4 million passengers expected in 2014, according to officials. The Port Everglades Department is a self-supporting enterprise fund within Broward County government, but it doesn't rely on local tax dollars for operations or capital improvements.
