  • (1888PressRelease) August 29, 2013 - On August 28, 2013, Penguin Publishing's Alpha Books, publishers of the acclaimed "Complete Idiot's Guide" series, has opened their hearts and inventory to help people in health crisis, by contributing to a profoundly compassionate program of the Kansas University Hospital, their Turning Point, Center for Hope & Healing program.

KU Hospital's Turning Point program offers free complimentary and alternative medicine programs in support of patients standard health care journey, including yoga in chairs, meditation, diet, and tai chi and qigong.

Turning Point's Tai Chi & Qigong classes, for people dealing with Parkinson's, MS, Heart Disease, and other chronic health issues including Fibromyalgia, chronic pain, migraine, hypertension, and other issues, are taught by Bill Douglas, the author of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi & Qigong."

Bill raised funds from his public class students to purchase 50 copies of the newly released, "Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi" to make available to physicians and centers in the hospital network, after finding that students in his Turning Point classes through Kansas University Hospital were finding benefits in line with the medical research on Tai Chi catalogued and summarized in the Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi. Two students in these classes who'd been on daily diabetes medications were able to be completely taken off of diabetes medication by their physicians, while other students in these Tai Chi classes had been able to dramatically reduce the need for pain medications, or no longer need hypertension meds, while another had avoided hip surgery, when her hip pain just "went away" after a few weeks of Tai Chi.

In the above testimonials Bill was moved when some of the Tai Chi & Qigong class participants told of how KU Hospital Turning Point's free program was their last resort.

Bill then got the idea of reaching out to his book's publisher, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi & Qigong," Alpha Penguin Books, to see if they'd donate to this wonderful program offered through Kansas University Hospital's Turning Point, Center for Hope & Healing program.

Penguin Alpha was moved by what Turning Point was doing, and promptly shipped 100 copies of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to T'ai Chi & Qigong" so that every single participant in the KU Hospital Turning Point Tai Chi & Qigong program could get a copy of the book.

Today Turning Point staff opened the boxes of books given by Penguin Alpha and passed them out to the Tai Chi and Qigong program students.
