Paws up for PODS: Storage donation helps local humane society
Recent PODS contest winner donates free storage to help San Luis Obispo County animals just in time for its annual Wiggle Waggle Walk fundraiser on Oct. 22.
- San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles, CA (1888PressRelease) September 02, 2011 - With budget cuts and financial fears looming overhead for many, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a steady and successful organization. Local non-profits are now forced to rely on donations to merely stay afloat.
With 80 percent of its financial resources coming from the support of the community to keep the shelter operational, Woods Humane Society (WHS) recognizes and appreciates even the smallest gestures of support from good Samaritans.
The local PODS franchise, serving Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties, recently conducted a radio promotion giving away the use of a PODSŪ container each weekday throughout an entire month. One winner, Donna Chin, received notification of her prize a day late after already hiring a moving truck for her upstate move.
Since Chin could not use her free month of storage in a PODSŪ container, she donated it to help a non-profit near and dear to her heart - the Woods Humane Society. As a regular contributor and volunteer with local animal rescue facilities, Chin understands the nonprofit's limited funding for surgeries, support for events and the constant care of the animals.
The container donation came at an ideal time for WHS as it prepares for its upcoming Wiggle Waggle Walk for Woods, an annual fundraising pledge walk that provides funds for humane sheltering and veterinary care of the animals.
"The donation will streamline our event related logistics which drastically reduces the inherent stress level for the pre-event planning committee," said Steve Kragenbrink, community programs director at Woods Humane Society. "Additionally, this has created a unique opportunity for WHS and PODS to partner up in the community."
The Wiggle Waggle Walk for Woods event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 22. Along with a pledge walk, there will be events and awards for pets, a BBQ lunch and more. For additional information, visit: http://www.woodshumane.org/wiggle4.asp.
"We love when our PODS customers step up and do great things to help others in the community," said Steve Yapp, owner of San Luis Obispo's PODS Moving and Storage franchise. "We are grateful Ms. Chin has introduced us to the Woods Humane Society and look forward to helping our four-legged friends in the future."
