The first book of the series, The Name of the Wind, was published in 2007 by DAW/Penguin. It went on to receive critical acclaim and become a New York Times best seller.

In the interview, Patrick said that his relationship with his parents was great in the early stages and they loved and supported him.
Patrick said that he developed the love for writing because his mother taught him to read.
To a question, he said that it took him 13 years before publishers even started to have a look at his writings.
