- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) July 04, 2013 - Patrick Descombes, Head of Functional Genomics Core at Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences will give a featured presentation on "NGS in Systems Biology Approaches to Health Maintenance and Disease Prevention" at the NGS & Bioinformatics Summit Europe on October 7-8, 2013 in Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Patrick Descombes is the head of the Functional Cenomics Core of the Nestle Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS). His responsibilities in this role include supporting, managing and executing projects involving genomics at NIHS, with a team of seven scientists. The cutting-edge genomics technologies routinely used include Next Generation Sequencing, Third Generation Sequencing and microarrays for discovery, and real-time PCR and nanoString nCounter for validation. The major applications cover transcriptomics, genotyping, DNA (re)sequencing, miRNA, ChIP, epigenetics. Dr. Descombes has also a role in the management of the research portfolio of NIHS. Prior to joining NIHS, Dr. Descombes did set up and managed for ten years the Genomics Platform of the University of Geneva.
The NGS & Bioinformatics Summit Europe gathers the foremost experts to present on leading-edge technology in next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics. The summit includes two parallel conferences including joint sessions featuring discussions on both research and clinical applications of NGS with its respective challenges, and technical aspects of NGS from a bioinformatics perspective and its practical applications; the opportunities and challenges in NGS dedicated to NGS-related topics, bioinformatics, and data management will all be covered.
