  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) December 23, 2011 - Passage Home (http://www.passagehome.org), a nonprofit agency fighting poverty and homelessness in Wake County, has announced that the organization hosted a Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Raleigh Community and Safety Club at 513 Branch St. The event gave parents of Passage Home participants a chance to engage in the spirit of the season by wrapping gifts to take home to their children to celebrate the holidays. Passage Home's Angel Tree program, which provided the gifts, served approximately 165 children this year. The organization also serves more than 1,000 individuals annually. During the party, Passage Home children enjoyed lunch, cookie baking, crafts, carols and more during the party, which was also supported by the Greater Heights United Methodist Youth Group in Clayton, N.C. and Bayer CropScience, an active sponsor of Passage Home.

    QUOTES:
"The holiday season can be a difficult time of year for many people, as we typically see need increase by 50 percent during the holiday season. Not only at this time, but throughout the year, Passage Home is committed to giving our program participants a hand up, not a hand-out," said Jeanne Tedrow, chief executive officer of Passage Home. "This means that we work side by side to find sustainable solutions for the families, which ultimately benefits their neighborhood and our city as a whole. Our activities help connect Passage Home participants to volunteers from companies like Bayer CropScience and local youth groups like the one from Greater Heights United Methodist Church. They also demonstrate that by working together we can and do make a difference."

"Passage Home is an outstanding organization committed to serving residents in the Triangle, and Bayer CropScience is proud to support them through financial contributions and employee volunteer efforts," said Dr. Jacqueline Applegate, Passage Home board member and head of Bayer Environmental Science North America. "We find that our employees are inspired by the opportunities to connect and make a difference in the community. Bayer CropScience looks forward to continuing our work with Passage Home, and we would like to thank our employees and their families for participating in this event."
