Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai Joins Beat Diabetes Walkathon
Earlier this month staff from Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai joined more than 20,000 people in the city to take part in 5th annual Beat Diabetes Walkathon at Zabeel Park. The two-kilometer walk was organised to raise awareness about diabetes and promote the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.
- (1888PressRelease) December 31, 2013 - Mr Scott Butcher, General Manager, Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai, said, "Corporate Social Responsibility lies at the heart of our business ethics. We are all too aware of the risks of diabetes and as responsible citizens the first thing that needs to be done is to raise awareness about the illness, its causes and prevention. And the Beat Diabetes Walkathon is a wonderful initiative that we were proud to be part of."
There is ample evidence that lifestyle changes (achieving a healthy body weight and moderate physical activity) can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes. Physical activity is one of the main pillars in the prevention of diabetes. Increased physical activity is important in maintaining weight loss and is linked to reduced blood pressure, reduced resting heart rate, increased insulin sensitivity, improved body composition and psychological well-being.
The latest research shows that one in ten of the world's population will have diabetes by 2035, surging to a total of 592 million, many in low and middle income countries and the majority under 60 years of age. There are 745,940 diabetics in the UAE, according to figures published by the International Diabetes Federation to mark World Diabetes Day. In 304,000 of those cases the condition has not been diagnosed.
