  • (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2015 - New York,NY - City is Failing to address concerns about ACS, Parents and Advocates Say. FPA- Foundation a advocacy organization that service the 5 boroughs will be implementing a new initiative to reach out to the community to address the complaints from the community. Working to ensure that the community voices are heard about ACS and foster care agencies in order for reforms to take place.

The New Coalition CWRRC-Child welfare review and reform coalition made up of community organizations and parents in the 5 boroughs. We will work with our communities in order to exercise effective oversight over Administration for Children Services and contracted foster care agencies and family courts. We will work proactively to conduct and investigate and expose these concerns that community and parents are having with ACS and contracted foster care agencies and family courts.

Parents affected by child welfare system are disappointed that when they make complaints against foster care agencies and family courts they were shocked when their concerns fell on death ears. Since 2014 to present 3200 complaints has been made at the public advocates office about ACS and at the office of Advocacy monitored by ACS about their contracted foster care agencies.

The Office of Advocacy should not be the only one monitoring these community complaints. Over site is needed in this system and not by Administration for Children Services. The system, is failing to reunite families, to place children with family members who could foster them, to keep siblings together, and to create permanent plans for children. Foster care agencies are not following policy and procedure and no accountability at the end of the day leaving families feeling hopeless.

Family courts are not working in a timely manner and parents voices are not being heard in these proceedings. The system is plagued by a lack of accountability and transparency - every CPS decides how to run its own child protection department, with minimal input from the state. The elected officials and government must intervene in the concerns that the community has addressed about this department. No one wants to be held accountable for what is taking place in child welfare system. Children and families are being affected.Case workers aren't adequately trained, and attorneys aren't ready-resulting in adjournment after adjournment in court.

Foster care in NYC must improve and the children & families affected voices must be heard and not ignored by the Mayor,ACS commissioner or elected officials. We looked at the urgency of this because of the well-being of children and families, who one way or another seemed to be falling through the cracks in the most fatal ways,"
