  • Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) May 12, 2016 - Over the last 5 years UrbanPromise, a school providing many educational programs for underprivileged youth, has had a graduation rate of 100% with 90% of seniors going on to college. That is an impressive number considering the school's Camden location. The graduation rate of Camden's public high schools remains around 50% with only 7% of the city's population having earned a bachelor's degree. UrbanPromise aims to "equip Camden children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership."

Through many fundraising efforts, UrbanPromise is able to provide programs for Camden youth ranging from every day school, summer camps, before and after school programs, expeditions, and many other opportunities that promote individual growth through education.

One of these fundraising efforts, Pedal for Promise, is a charity bike ride that Paparone Insurance participates in annually. This year, Team Paparone had a goal of raising $7,500. With that challenge, Paparone Insurance hosted a cocktail party on Thursday, April 28th to try to reach their goal. So far, Team Paparone has met their goal and more by raising over $7,975 and having 18 volunteer bikers signed up for the ride.

This is not Paparone's first venture into the world of UrbanPromise. Paparone Insurance owner, Bruce Paparone, has followed his father's legacy of volunteering for the program. Samuel J. Paparone was a strong supporter of the school and in 2006 Paparone Homes built the 15,000 square foot Samuel J. Paparone Student Center for UrbanPromise in the late Samuel's memory to be used by future generations of students to come. The student center hosts classrooms, a computer lab, faculty/administration offices, a meeting room, a lunch room and warm up kitchen.

Pedal for Promise will take place this Saturday, May 14th, with the ride beginning at 8:30 AM. The ride this year is taking place at Kenneth R. Olson Middle School in Tabernacle, NJ. For more information, or to ride or donate to the event, please visit the UrbanPromise website.
