A look over the last five years shows the true value of precious metals.
(1888PressRelease) November 04, 2011 - MIAMI, FL - Amidst the ups and downs that seem to dominate the recious metals market these days, it is worth taking a quick refresher course on what has happened to the metals over the last five years.
Five years ago, gold was worth just over $600, today it is worth $1760; five years ago, silver was worth around $13 an ounce, today it is worth around $35. In other words, gold has almost tripled over a five-year period, gaining some 200%, while silver has risen, very approximately, some 165%. How many other assets can claim they have achieved such returns? latinum and palladium, relying more heavily on industrial demand, have been slower to recover from the 2008 recession. Nevertheless, platinum has risen from (approximately) $1200 to $1600, a 33% gain - not in the same league as gold, perhaps, but not too shabby either. Palladium has more than doubled, a rise of more than 100%, in the same time period. Investors would be hard put to have found any other investment that would have equaled these returns.
"Over the last two decades, gold has consistently outperformed all other assets, especially during times of economic turmoil," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "Detractors claim that precious metals bullion does not produce any income or dividends but the potential profits, for those prepared to hold on to their investment for the medium to long term, are truly impressive."
Additionally, precious metals bullion can offer protection against inflation, hyperinflation, stagflation or deflation. Precious metals offer a true safe haven during periods when the global economy is struggling.
