Gold, silver and platinum all showed significant gains during first two weeks of active trading in 2012.
(1888PressRelease) January 23, 2012 - MIAMI, FL - Precious metals have performed strongly in the first two or three weeks of active trading this year, particularly when compared with the final quarter of 2011, with platinum up 11.3%, gold up 7.6% and silver up 7%.
Some experts predict that the current rally in prices will be relatively short lived and may be followed by a sharp correction. However, most agree that they anticipate a further rise in price during the second half of the year with many predicting $2000 for gold and $35, or higher, for silver during the course of 2012.
"Concern over global economic growth and unsustainable sovereign debt makes precious metals bullion a very attractive investment," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "Precious metals have an intrinsic value that cannot be debased in the same way as paper currencies. Gold bullion, in particular, provides a hedge against inflation and has been proven to hold its value."
Demand for gold from central banks also remains strong and physical demand from Asia is stronger than ever, India's increase in levies notwithstanding. Many market analysts also feel that silver is poised for a strong rally.
"Silver benefits both from investment and industrial demand," says Bill Hionas. "As such it will increase in price if economical growth is strong. Over 50% of the demand for silver comes from industry."
