Pan American Metals of Miami says Opinions May Differ but Gold Bullion has Outperformed the Stock Market for Decades

Top Quote Market analysts are divided about the immediate future for gold. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) December 22, 2011 - MIAMI, FL - Will gold continue to rise or are we entering a bear market? The answer will vary depending who you talk to, and what influences their point of view. On the one hand, the pessimists would have us believe that last week's fall was the beginning of the end for gold, that sliding below the 200-day moving average marked the end of the 11-year bull run. More optimistic analysts, on the other hand, are just as convincing with their argument that corrections, even sharp corrections, are only to be expected and are just part of the overall upward trend.

The largest cause for concern has been the fact that gold has not actually soared upward in light of political and economic turmoil. Debt crises in the US and Europe and the death of North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-il, should have caused gold to rise on safe-haven demand. The biggest problem in predicting the next move for gold has been the fact that it is no longer acting as a safe haven but is behaving instead as if it were a risk asset and has been moving in tandem with commodities and equities.

"Gold has been acting out of character for a while now," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "However, this will not last. Whenever there has been economic and political turmoil, gold bullion has provided a safe haven. Over the last two decades it has reliably outperformed the stock market. Over the year as a whole, gold has gained more than 12%. If there is any hint of inflation, buyers will turn back to gold, and away from the dollar, for wealth protection."
