Gold's rebound is helped by safe-haven demand following news from Iran.
(1888PressRelease) January 03, 2012 - MIAMI, FL - Market watchers feel that gold's rally, which began Friday, December 30, should continue during the first trading week of 2012. Markets were closed Monday for the New Year's Day holiday and will reopen for normal trading Tuesday.
The rebound in the price of gold bullion, on the last trading day of 2011, was mainly fueled by bargain hunters. However, news of Iran's production of a nuclear rod and threat to close the Strait of Hormuz, while US warships are on watch nearby, has caused gold to rise further on safe-haven demand. Market experts anticipate a bullish start to the new year with the price of gold rising and silver following in its wake.
"Geopolitical tensions and the threat of any kind of military action will definitely be bullish for gold, the ultimate safe haven," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "Gold has not been acting as a safe haven for some time now, which is surprising considering that this is its traditional role. Interestingly, current tensions may be the catalyst that enables gold bullion to become the safe haven of choice once again."
