Gold has still not recovered its safe-haven status but continues to move in tandem with the euro.
(1888PressRelease) December 14, 2011 - MIAMI, FL - Gold is still moving in tandem with the euro and, as such, it suffered badly this morning. For those who bought gold expecting a safe refuge this is understandably frustrating. That gold will start acting as a safe haven again is certain, what is less certain is when. For now, the present dip in price offers a buying opportunity for the savvy investor.
Bear in mind that -even at today's prices - gold has still gained 18% over the year. Try beating that return with any other investment! At artificially low prices such as we are seeing today, there are significant profits to be made in 2012 also. Market experts still forecast $2000 or higher for next year, a good 20% gain on this morning's price. Where else can investors park their cash to make close to 20% a year?
"Once the situation reaches a point where a safe haven, other than the dollar, is needed, gold will skyrocket," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "This will happen either due to inflation, or to a lack of confidence in the US dollar - or both."
At present, gold is a strong asset and therefore a prime choice for sale when times get tough, or fund managers need to show an end-of-year profit. Patience may be the name of the game for now; investors choosing to buy gold at today's prices, and hold on to it for at least a few months, should be well rewarded in the coming year.
