  • Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) April 16, 2014 - Ladies, have you ever had the urge to bedazzle your bra? Now's your chance to create your own unique masterpiece by painting a brassiere, sipping wine, and having fun - all for a good cause.

The Bra Recyclers will be hosting The Brazaar Art Paint Your Bra Party to raise funds for local charities benefiting women and girls in transition on Saturday, June 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Brush Bar, 4165 North Craftsman Court in Scottsdale with creative and supportive staff members on hand to guide both novices and experts. The price of admission is $35. The Bra Recyclers will be making a donation to the Chandler Relay for Life from the proceeds of the event.

Reservations to the event include a complimentary glass of wine, bra, and paint supplies. If they prefer, participants may bring a specific bra they'd like to paint as well as any additional embellishments they'd like to use. Participants can choose to enter their bras in the Brazaar Art Showcase in October for great prizes and proceeds from the sale of the bras will benefit local charities.

The event is designed to help promote the idea of recycling gently used or unused bras to breast cancer survivors and women in transitional shelters. Since many women have bras in their drawers that never quite fit right or are hardly worn, why not put those ill-fitting, inappropriate, or seldom worn bras to good use by recycling them?

"While most people are familiar with the concept of recycling aluminum cans and paper products, they may not be aware of the importance of recycling bras and other textiles," explains Elaine Birks-Mitchell, CEO of the Bra Recyclers. "The average person throws away 70 pounds of clothing each year when 95% of textiles can be recycled. For example, recycled bras can benefit women and girls who cannot afford this simple lingerie staple that is considered a luxury item in their eyes. In fact, bras are one of the most requested items in shelters. That's why we host events like this one, to educate people as well as to give women an opportunity to come out and release their inner 'bra-volous' by beautifying bras for a good cause. It's all about the girls!"

Since The Bra Recycler's inception in 2008, the organization has donated over 25,000 bras to over 70 organizations locally as well as around the world. Many of the organizations have felt the recent economic impact of budget cuts and lack of resources to provide program participants with basic necessities to live. With a network of support from Bra Recycling Ambassadors across the country, The Bra Recyclers hopes women will recycle more bras than ever before.
