- (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2013 - Staffordshire-based pork supplier, Packington Pork (http://www.packingtonfreerange.com/), is delighted to have been shortlisted for Marks and Spencer's prestigious Farming for the Future Awards (http://producerexchange.marksandspencer.com/).
The M&S Farming for the Future awards are notoriously competitive in each regional category - Packington Pork is celebrating the great achievement of being shortlisted in the English category, alongside farmers from Cornwall, Cambridgeshire and Chichester.
As a family run company, Packington Pork is well known for their dedication to assuring the highest standards of animal welfare and sustaining the environment local to the farm. Packington impressed the M&S judges with their commitment to health and welfare, investment in the business and most of all, their sustainable farming practices. From restoration of ancient meadows to installation of solar panels and boreholes, the Staffordshire farmers' commitment to ethical farming did not go unnoticed.
Steve Mclean, M&S Head of Agriculture& Fisheries, said: "Choosing the M&S Farming for the Future shortlist in England was a very difficult decision for the judges. There is a great deal of innovation and quality across the agriculture sector, and these entries really stood out."
Packington Pork MD, Rob Mercer,"We believe that the traditional free-range way of farming is paramount, are very proud to be RSPCA accredited and are thrilled that our efforts have been recognised by the Farming for the Future scheme. It may take longer to produce pigs this way, but the results are worth it."
The finalists from the English category will be congregating at an agricultural show in Yorkshire on Tuesday 9th, where the winners and runners up will be announced. The winners from each category are then put forward for the prestigious Champion of Champions award which is voted for by M&S customers.
