The awards are highly valued by New Zealand businesses, because they are voted for by employees of the businesses involved. By winning this award, Overland Footwear has been recognised by its own employees as an outstanding place to work. It has also been rated more highly by employees than any of the other companies in the awards.
Taking part in the survey is one of the many ways Overland Footwear, which sells men's shoes, women's shoes online and in-store, demonstrates its commitment to employees, ensuring they are highly valued and appreciated.
Overland managing director Shane Anselmi opened the first Overland store in 1990 in Newmarket, Auckland, and the company has doubled the size of its business every five to seven years after that, and now has a sophisticated website where customers can buy shoes online, as well as choose from the handbag collection.
Anselmi comments: "Attention to detail and design is paramount to everything Overland does, from the design and styling of its ranges to the look of the Overland and Mi Piaci stores, and most importantly the warm, engaging experience our customers receive when they visit," Anselmi says.
Sanchia Yonge, managing director at Kenexa, an employee solutions company that organises the awards, adds that employees in the best workplaces feel a great sense of common purpose from their leadership. "Employees know how they are tracking and are clear about what they need to do in order to support the organisation's success," she explains.
Commenting on Overland Footwear's $350 benefit for each employee for their health and well-being, Yonge says it is a great idea: "This makes them feel well looked after."
The survey ran in association with The New Zealand Herald, and was supported by Kiwibank and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. This year, it attracted the largest number of participants so far - some 33,000 employees from 289 companies across the country.
