Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) April 05, 2011 - Celebrating modern and contemporary art, the third annual 2011 Dallas Art Fair presented by Ruinart, Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10, will take place at the Fashion Industry Gallery (f.i.g.), occupying 70,000 square feet in a mid-century, modern building within walking distance of the Dallas Arts District.

The 2011 Dallas Art Fair (DAF) will showcase more than 70 preeminent national and international galleries representing artists working in media such as works on paper, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, video and installation. Seventeen stellar Texas-based exhibitors from Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Marfa and Austin will also be part of the impressive array of gallerists. Among the over 70 exhibitors, the Dallas Art Fair will welcome back notable exhibitors including Andrew Edlin Gallery, New York, representing artists such as Henry Darger; D'Amelio Terras, New York, who is known for mentoring rising talents such as their rediscovery of Yayoi Kusama; Anthony Meier Fine Arts, San Francisco, whose 2010 booth was totally devoted to Donald Moffett; the renown Pace Prints, New York, the authoritative source for museum-quality multiples; William Shearburn Gallery, St. Louis, with artists such as Ed Ruscha and William Kentridge. Noted London gallerist Stuart Shave/Modern Art represents Barnaby Furnas and installationist David Altmejd.

There are new exhibitors who will be welcomed to DAF such as West Coast galleriests Michael Kohn, Thomas Solomon, Marc Selwyn and David Kordansky-all from Los Angeles. From the Midwest, Chicago's moniquemeloche roster of artists includes Joel Ross. Mega-European Galleria Lorcan O'Neill Roma whose representation includes Francesco Clemente, Kiki Smith, Tracey Emin and Sam Taylor-Wood.

Manhattan exhibitors new to 2011 DAF are Zach Feuer who will display Mark Flood; gallery Canada who will showcase Matt Connors canvases to coincide with his show at the Dallas Museum of Art; Hirsch & Adler with paintings by Richard Lonsdale-Hands; Gasser Grunert Gallery with works by Ellen Phelan; and Cueto Project, home to the Bruce High Quality Foundation.

Palm Beach will be represented by Gavlak Gallery, home to artists including Jose Alvarez and Rob Wynne.

Seventeen stellar Texas-based exhibitors culled from Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Marfa and Austin will also be part of the impressive array of worldwide gallerists. Highlights include "Hope", a recent polished-aluminium sculpture by celebrated Pop master Robert Indiana at Houston's Colton & Farb Gallery; Moody Gallery with offerings from Gael Stack and Venice Biennale-exhibited James Drake; Inman Gallery with a booth focused on Dario Robelto; and Fort Worth's Artspace 111 displaying Daniel Blagg.

Important Dallas dealers Barry Whistler Gallery, Conduit Gallery, Holly Johnson Gallery and Cris Worley Fine Arts will have DAF booths and Fort Worth leader William Campbell Contemporary Art and Lora Reynolds Gallery of Austin will also be in attendance.

Panels and Discussions

The 2011 Dallas Art Fair will offer a full schedule of panel discussions over the three days of the Fair, April 8-10. Lead by art experts, international collectors, cultural institution directors and educators, the list includes events throughout the Dallas Arts District with many events open to the public. A documentary film, "Full Circle: Before They Were Famous", which chronicles fine art photographer William John Kennedy's early 1960s photographs of never before seen photos of Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana, will have a public screening at the 2011 Dallas Art Fair on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9 at 5:00pm in the Beck Imaginarium, 1807 Ross (same building as the Dallas Art Fair). Immediately following the film will be a panel discussion with Warhol superstar Ultra Violet, who appears in the documentary, and photographer William John Kennedy. The screening is hosted in conjunction with Colton Farb Gallery, Houston.

The documentary by Brian Bayer is full of personal anecdotes and remembrances by many of the principals of the Pop Art Movement and includes appearances by artist Robert Indiana; Warhol Superstar, bestselling author and acclaimed artist Ultra Violet; and poet/performer Taylor Mead as they view their images for the first time.

A special appearance at the Miami premiere by Ultra Violet enchanted the standing-room-only audience. According to Tom Austin in AOL/Paper (artbasel.aol.com), it was "one of the best-and most surreal evenings-of Art Basel."

The prestigious ADAA (Art Dealers Association of America) has scheduled a Collectors Forum panel, made possible by AXA Art, entitled "Art Fair Power: How Art Fairs Influence a Market and a Region" for Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 am at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Panelists include, Anthony Meier, Owner, Anthony Meier Fine Arts; James Cohan, Owner, James Cohan Gallery and Co-Founder, VIP Art Fair; Chris Byrne, Co-Founder, Dallas Art Fair; Michael Auping, Chief Curator, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and Talley Dunn, Co-Owner, Dunn and Brown Contemporary. The panel discussion will be moderated by Jeremy Strick, Director, Nasher Sculpture Center.

At 1:00pm, Saturday, there will be a lively and frank discussion on collecting and the dynamics of having a private space to house and install art works entitled Collectors and their Private Spaces for Contemporary Art. International collectors Kenny Goss, Howard Rachofsky, and Mark Vanmoerkerke will provide insight on their personal collections. The panel will be moderated by Peter Doroshenko, Director, Dallas Contemporary, author of Private Spaces for Contemporary Art (Rispoli 2010).

Neiman Marcus Flagship Store Windows

Neiman Marcus, a founding sponsor of the Dallas Art Fair, will dedicate its display windows on Main and Ervay Streets to the 2011 Dallas Art Fair. This is the third year that the flagship store has sponsored the windows and hosted a reception as part of the window unveiling. The unique windows premiered on March 23 and will remain installed through April 10.

The window project originated with Dallas Art Fair Co-Founder Chris Byrne and international painter and sculptor Richard Patterson, who lives and works in Dallas. They asked art community leaders to nominate artists and individuals to create window installations for the downtown Neiman Marcus store, coordinating with Neiman Marcus Corporate Art Curator Julie Kronick. Leading institutions participating include the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Contemporary, both of Dallas; The Menil Collection of Houston; artist Bill Davenport; gallery owners Julie and Bruce Webb; and art book publisher Ed Marquand.

A Preview Gala will be held on Thursday, April 7, benefiting both Booker T.
