Oregon Health & Science University Uses AeroScout Solutions to Track and Manage Critical Medical Equipment throughout Nine Inpatient Medical Facilities

Using AeroScout's Healthcare RTLS, the academic medical center is tracking and managing more than 2,500 assets throughout nine of its inpatient buildings, with plans to add another 1,000 items by year-end. In addition to equipment tracking, OHSU is wirelessly monitoring the temperature of refrigerators and freezers as well as the ambient temperatures in many rooms and locations. The AeroScout solutions have had rapid payback periods for OHSU, while easing provider workload and enhancing care.

OHSU uses AeroScout Asset Management to manage and quickly locate mobile medical equipment, such as infusion pumps, hospital beds and wheelchairs, throughout its facilities. The implementation utilizes OHSU's state-of-the-art Cisco Unified Wireless Network to avoid having to deploy and maintain a separate, proprietary network - reducing complexity and total cost of ownership. Using the simple and intuitive AeroScout MobileView, the academic medical center's staff can use this end-user software to quickly find equipment instead of conducting physical searches. Ensuring that the proper items are available when and where they are needed helps staff spend even more time treating patients and providing high quality care.
In addition to optimizing asset tracking and utilization, OHSU expanded its use of AeroScout's solutions to include WiFi Temperature Monitoring. OHSU wirelessly tracks the temperatures in refrigerators and freezers that store pharmaceuticals, lab reagents, lab specimens, breast milk and food, and monitors the ambient temperatures in many rooms with temperature-sensitive clinical equipment and locations storing lab reagents. The solution automatically records the temperature of each refrigerator or room at regular intervals, alleviating the nursing, lab and pharmacy staff of the task of manually tracking temperature readings. Continuous monitoring allows OHSU to make optimal thermostat adjustments and identify refrigerators that may need to be replaced. The solution also alerts staff when temperatures deviate from pre-set ranges, enabling prompt action when necessary.
