The National Steinbeck Center, in collaboration with California State University at Monterey Bay (CSUMB), is working with CSUMB students, taught by Professor Rina Benmayor, who are being trained to interview the elders of Salinas about some of our most historically, and culturally significant people, places and traditions.

Once collected, these stories will be utilized as part of the 2013 Steinbeck Festival. This year's Steinbeck Festival theme is 'Home' and will explore Steinbeck's home - including Salinas, Cannery Row and the Pastures of Heaven.

The oral histories collected this Fall will be featured in many of the tours. Tour locales will include Oldtown Salinas, the Salinas Rodeo and the Pastures of Heaven as just some of the locations. The Festival will also feature talks, films, food and the visual and performing arts.

The 33rd Annual Steinbeck Festival is Old Home Week for Steinbeck lovers from across the world and down the street.
