Open-IX Association Appoints New Officers, Committee Chairs
Appointments Include Board Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, as well as Heads of the Data Center Standards Committee and Marketing Committee.
- (1888PressRelease) January 21, 2016 - BLOOMINGDALE, MI, USA - The Open-IX Association (OIX), a 501(c)(6) non-profit industry association formed to promote better standards for data center interconnection and Internet exchanges, today announces the following new officers on its Board of Directors: William Charnock as Chairman; Christian Koch as Vice Chairman; new Board member Greg Hankins as Treasurer; and Executive Director Gabe Cole as Secretary. The Board was reconstituted this past October.
In addition, new Board member Vinay Nagpal has been reappointed Chair of the Open-IX Marketing Committee and Eli D. Scher has been appointed Chair of the Data Center Standards Committee. Mr. Scher, who has served on the Open-IX Data Center Standards Committee since June 2014, is the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of New Continuum Holdings Corporation, which operates a carrier-neutral, multi-tenant data center in the western Chicago suburbs. He also serves as CEO of United IX, a multi-site peering fabric in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Dave Temkin, the former Chairman of the Board and Open-IX co-founder stated, "We welcome Will Charnock as the new Chairman of the Board along with a new leadership team that will help propel the vision of Open-IX through extensive industry knowledge, experience and skills."
The Open-IX Board is comprised of volunteer representatives from the Internet community in the United States and around the world, who are coming together to create a better, safer, stronger and fairer Internet. In addition to controlling all aspects of the association's property, affairs and business, the Open-IX Board is also responsible for safeguarding the Open Stand compliant standards development that the Internet community has entrusted to it, instituting and conducting the OIX-1 and OIX-2 certification process for Internet exchanges and data centers, and determining whether those entities have met or exceeded the Open-IX minimum standards of performance. Furthermore, the Board is accountable for establishing and publishing Membership Program policies and procedures, granting Open-IX membership, holding the Annual General and other meetings, and delegating to Open-IX Officers and / or Committees.
Organized and operated by volunteers from the Internet, the Open-IX Association was created to increase the reliability, resiliency and competitiveness of massive-scale interconnection for all. With the help of broad participation of interconnect and data center professionals, the association has successfully developed Internet Exchange and data center consensus-based community standards and certified 29 data centers and 10 exchanges since its establishment in 2013.
