Olympic Snowboarder Elena Hight Paddling Custom Tahoe SUP 'BLISS'
Elena Hight, 2 time Olympic halfpipe snowboarder, 2012 U.S. Open champion and 2012 X Games silver medalist has added stand up paddle boarding to her off season training regimen.
- (1888PressRelease) September 26, 2012 - Reno, NV - Taking part-time residence in Southern California, away from her home in South Lake Tahoe this summer, Hight has been paddling to help strengthen her core muscles and hips. SUP was recommended to Hight while rehabbing an injury as one of the best ways to build core muscles while enjoying the outdoors.
"I wanted to focus on increasing my balance and core strength," said Hight. "SUP does both and I get to workout outside on the water!"
Hight sought out Tahoe SUP, a stand up paddle board manufacturer, for advice on what type of board would be best to suit her needs. Nate Brouwer, founder and board designer for Tahoe SUP, decided on a custom shape for Hight.
"Taking into consideration that Elena is the first woman to land a double backside alley-oop rodeo in a halfpipe," said Brouwer, "I wanted to add some performance elements and come up with a design that would challenge her and in turn, make her stronger. Elena loved the look of our women's specific BLISS board, so her custom board got the colors and graphics from the BLISS."
"I am having so much fun on my board", said Hight. "Its beautiful, lightweight and stable. I have even started doing Yoga on it!"
Stand up paddle boarding is the fastest growing watersport in the world and heralded not only for it's fitness benefits but for the connection to nature it provides. Athletes from many diferent sports are turning to SUP for cross training and because it is non impact, it is also becoming a great choice for physical therapy for injuries.
