New Beccehamian Hockey Club (NBHC) is set to host a fun open day at its HSBC Sports ground in new Beckenham as a result of a surge of interest from new players.
- (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2012 - New Beccehamian Hockey Club (NBHC) is experiencing an unprecedented influx of new members following the success of Team GB at London 2012.
"We had a steady flow of enquiries throughout the summer," says NBHC club secretary, Steph Seeney. "But when the GB men's and women's teams reached the Olympic semi final, there was a noticeable increase and especially when the women's team won bronze. It's obvious people have been energised by this summer's Olympic success."
For the 2012/2013 season, the club has launched a new development side to introduce young players to the men's game and as a result of the surge in interest from prospective members, it is hosting an open day at its home ground at HSBC Sports Club in Lennard Road, opposite New Beckenham station on Sunday 9th September from 12pm to 3.00pm.
"Not only is hockey a great way to keep fit, there's a really good social side too. We are very excited about the new interest in New Beccs," says Steph. "The club day is set to be an entertaining one for anybody that comes along, with some 7-aside games and a bit of fun. It's open to men and women of all ages and abilities, and children aged 14 +. It doesn't matter if you've never played before or, inspired by the Olympics, you're dusting off your hockey stick for the first time in years. Everybody's welcome."
New Beccs has had some success of its own recently: it's men's first XI has been promoted to the South Regional Kent League and the second XI finished second in Kent Open Division 2, just losing out on top spot on goal difference.
