- Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria, OH (1888PressRelease) February 25, 2011 - We are pleased to announce that Dr. Oliver Mayorga will be the Director at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, effective January 1, 2011. Dr. Mayorga joined EMP in 2009.
Oliver Mayorga holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Anthropology from Rice University in Houston, Texas. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed an Internship in Internal Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine/Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Dr. Mayorga completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Jacobi/Montefiore in Bronx, New York, and served as Chief Resident. He then served three years in the Air Force, where he was the Assistant Medical Director at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Mass Casualty Coordinator at the Air Force Theater Hospital in Balad, Iraq. Dr. Mayorga is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and its Connecticut Chapter.
Dr. Mayorga stated, "Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, I naturally gravitated to the East Coast when deciding where to work after the Air Force. In New London, I have found a dynamic work environment with a wonderful team of colleagues and a hospital always striving to improve itself. My wife, an oncology nurse, and two daughters keep me occupied in my spare time. When I get a moment, I enjoy jogs through some of the historic villages that dot the landscape, and occasionally I jump in my kayak for a paddle along the shore."
"As Director at EMP of New London, I look forward to further refining an already fantastic team of providers. By concentrating on caring, consistent, and timely patient care, I hope to make Lawrence and Memorial one of the preeminent hospitals to receive community emergency care in Southeast Connecticut.
