Founded in a neighborhood coffee shop, abcenterprizes came to life when Pia and Matt were both experiencing tremendous upheaval in their professional careers. Discussing their current predicaments, the co-authors both came to the realization that no matter how much effort they put into their occupation, they were always being pulled down by external forces of some unsavory characters. Regardless of the complexity of each chaotic situation, Pia and Matt were able to properly diagnosis each failure point; the situations always surrounded people's behaviors. The products or services were not flawed; it was the people executing the business that were flawed. Bertone-Gross and Rossini started to boil down all of their co-workers personalities to one pervasive personality trait that defined each character. With each particular trait, there was always one precise word that matched. Finding the right word to identify each co-worker became the challenge. What had often caused much stress and consternation in their lives became the inspiration of this endeavor, to attach the word to "That Guy" in the workplace.
"I was sitting in the coffee shop and Matt called to say he was going to stop in and say hi", reflects Pia. "He was just coming out of a whirlwind business situation and was a bit stressed out; he was trying to keep his chin up. Matt started sharing the truly graphic details of some of the characters he had been dealing with. I remember sharing a pretty much juvenile situation I was in as well. We both started laughing aloud, realizing that we had fallen victim, yet again, to the truly prized personalities of the workplace. We decide from that day forward to launch on a quest, bringing to light what we had been searching for, a way to properly identify that guy in the workplace and to stop him from screwing us over."
