Discount Ends: DEC 15
- (1888PressRelease) November 02, 2014 - On OCT 27, President Obama announced BIO-BASED Materials as 1-of-3 emerging technologies for US competitiveness; White House will fund $300M to be equally matched by the private sector.
Bio-based Plastics & Chemicals industry has decidedly moved beyond the biodegradable / compostable applications. Just as an example, rapid advances are being made in developing nylons ($27B market by 2018) via renewable intermediates. BIO-NYLONS are being used in high-end consumer products such as auto-parts in MERCEDES,FERARI, and MASERATI.
At our JAN 28-30 event, BIO-NYLONS will be a focus of presentations by DuPont, DSM, Arkema and manufacturers of intermediates; see below the agenda
January 28 (Wednesday), 2015

1:00-2:30 Introduction to BioPlastics: Orientation 101
Critical Knowledge for Mastering / Modifying Polymers
Dr. Yash Khanna, InnoPlast Solutions, USA
2:30-3:00 Coffee & Networking
3:00-5:00 BioPlastics: a Crash-Course on State-of-the-Industry
BioPlastics industry has clearly moved on well beyond the biodegradable & compostable materials concept. A number of renewable chemicals have emerged in the last 5-10 years with the potential to enable traditional polymers while opening the path for newer materials using renewable food, especially non-food biomass as opposed to PetroChemicals. However, some of those technologies, although still promising, as it appears now will take longer than anticipated commercialization timelines. Nevertheless, there has been a new wave of bioplastics entering the high-end consumer products such as Carpet Yarns, and auto-parts in Mercedes, Ferrari and Maserati; the field is continuously and rapidly evolving. This pre-conference course will bring you up to speed on state-of-the-industry. It's Time to Refresh our Understanding of BioPlastics !!!

Nylons
Worldwide market for Nylons is forecasted to be $27B / yearby 2018. There are many nylons commercially available; most popular being Nylon 66 and Nylon 6 followed by specialty nylons. Rennovia's announcement of biobased C-6 diamine, along with Verdezyne's C-6 diacid promises to deliver a 100% biobased Nylon 66. Other specialty nylons of the future from biobased building blocks include N46, N410, N56, N510, N610, N612, N1010 and many more. This presentation will exemplify the commercial developments in the field of bio-derived di-acids.

Polyesters
There are several thermoplastic polyesters commercially available; most popular being PET [ethylene glycol (EG) + terephthalic acid (TPA)] and PBT [butanediol (BDO)+ terephthalic acid (TPA)] with a worldwide market for forecasted to be $47B / year by 2019. While biobased EG is well known, scaling up of biobased BDO ( for example by BASF and Novamont using Genomatica's technology),and of biobased TPA in future, promises to deliver 100% biobased PET and PBT. A new polyester PEF [ethylene glycol (EG) + furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA)] with enhanced performance is on the horizon from Avantium. These presentations will provide updates on the commercialization of the building blocks for these polyesters including PBS [butanediol (BDO)+ succinnic acid (SA)], a biodegradable plastic in use already.
