Oaxaca FilmFest Updates 2011 Schedule
The 2011 Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival announces schedule changes, additional events, and the viewers choice award.

The Oaxaca International Film and Video Festival will launch the 2nd edition of the event in less than a month.
Oaxaca, a main epicenter of culture in the Americas for centuries, is proud to announce the Second Edition of the OAXACA INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL from November 12-19, 2011. With the long and storied city of Oaxaca de Juarez setting the scene, the eight day competitive event provides a platform for both the talents of seasoned filmmakers as well as emerging artists to showcase their work.
OAXACA FILMFEST is a uniquely successful cultural collaboration between both the private and public sectors of the International Community. Created by Filmmakers for Filmmakers, the Festival is the focal point of the dynamic and energized cinematic community that has emerged within the area over the last decade.
An integral part of the OAXACA INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL'S success is the events contribution to the economic and creative vitality of Oaxaca.
OAXACA FILMFEST thrives operating with three main objectives:

This year the festival will open things off with A Lonely Place For Dying. "My entire team is thrilled to be part of the Oaxaca International Film and Video Festival. What a fantastic city and event for our Mexican premiere!" said Justin Eugene Evans, writer/director/producer of the spy thriller. The film has played in 45 film festivals, been nominated for 48 awards, won 24 including 15 as best picture. It's teaser episode has been a global sensation. On July 1st the first 22 minutes was released via BitTorrent. It went viral and has been downloaded over 1.5 million times with over 1 million twitter impressions and news articles in The UK's Guardian and the US magazine Fast Company. The teaser has been subtitled by its fan base in over 40 languages. Now, Mexican audiences will finally get to see the film in its entirety!
The other big news out of the Festival this week is the launching of the Noticias Agave for Viewers Choice. The century old periodical a permanent fixture on the Oaxacan cultural scene is sponsoring the award. To check out the state of the art Viewers Choice page visit:

The festival's selection this year includes 106 films from 47 countries. The 8 days will come to a close with six original Agave statues being presented by Oaxaca's own Alejandro Santiago.
