Oakland County Septage Uses Hands-free Access for Pumper Trucks
Long-range RFID tags and readers from TagMaster NA resolved issues of access control.
- (1888PressRelease) July 23, 2013 - TACOMA, WA - TagMaster North America, Inc., the leading provider of long-range and high-performance Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems for Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI), was installed for the Oakland County Water Resource Commissioner's office to streamline access control for septage pumper trucks into a dump site in Pontiac, MI.
Oakland County had originally installed two previous RFID systems with a variety of issues and results. The first system, an active tag system, worked well but the tag battery life was two years or less and resulted in issues when replacement parts could not be easily acquired. The second active tag solution was unreliable when it came to reading tags, sometimes locking out valid tag users or opening the gate when a valid tag user drove by without entering the facility.
TagMaster NA's LR-6XL readers were supplied by Entrance Technologies, Inc. and were installed in December of 2012, with zero failures or incidents of false tag reads. The semi-passive, tamper evident tags have a predictable life and provide reliable long-range reads for consistent access control to the Septage Waste Haulers of Southeastern Michigan.
The system integrated smoothly with the AMAG Security and Access Control Software already in place that allows a tag read to debit an account one credit for each site access and use. Driver's whose accounts have a zero credit balance are denied access until their account has purchased more credits.
